How To Smooth Textured Walls Before Painting

Keep the layers of plaster thin on the walls and remember that you do not have to cover it all.

Skim coating, the process of covering rough walls with a thin layer of joint compound, will smooth out the wall surface. Many of the major paint manufacturers offer a line of textured paints. Materials & tools needed to skim coat for smooth wall texture.
